Areas covered

Puppets have been used since the earliest times. Even the Ancient Greeks and Romans used them. People have always been fascinated by puppets and they have many uses. They are usually associated with entertainment ie puppet shows for children but they have many other uses. Puppets are used by teachers in education to tell stories or to help deliver or reinforce a particular subject. Puppets are great for developing the imagination and encouraging creativity. This workshop is aimed primarily at younger children but can easily be extended to cater for older children if required. The children are introduced to a variety of puppet types including marionette, finger puppets, soft body puppets and glove puppets. The children see a live puppet show and after the show look at the puppet theatre and handle the puppets. Characterisation and puppet manipulation are also covered.

Puppets and Puppetry Workshop for Primary Schools suitable for KS1 and KS2. Can include puppet making. Option to specifically study  the Punch and Judy Show.

Puppets made by children

“ Ron provided a range of activities for our school and coped well with a group aged 4 to 11. The children loved the activities and were engaged in the work and produced some great puppets. The aim of the day was to encourage creativity and to use our imagination and Ron promoted this well by asking the children to write a story. The puppet show was very popular and entertaining ! Overall the children were engaged and enjoyed the day and Ron was very friendly with the children and the sessions went very well. Thanks very much for a great day ! “ Grewelthorpe C of E Primary School
